Today, Lakers' team reporter Dave McMenamin wrote an article about James' future.

He wrote: "Source revealed that James will choose to execute his $52.6 million player option."

"ESPN sources revealed that he had been training in the gym with his son Brownie James before returning to the court. This is the first time that the father and son have spent a long offseason together since last summer's Paris Olympics. A source who knows James's ideas told ESPN that although James has been considering retirement every offseason since 2023, he is not sure that this will be his last season when he starts next season."
