President of the Spanish Football Federation talks about La Liga overseas matches: We will not set up obstacles and always advocate dialogue

Where do you stand on the controversy over moving La Liga games to Miami? What is the official process?

We have done what we should do. Regarding the match between Villarreal and Barcelona on December 20, 2025 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, belonging to the 17th round of La Liga, we have received an application from a company responsible for the management of this match. We have forwarded this application to UEFA, and UEFA will eventually forward it to FIFA. In this case, it is up to the club to assess the matter.

Why do you think it is necessary to take the competition overseas? What's the logic behind this?

Football matches exist on "two pitches". One is physical, has bleachers, and is usually filled with fans. The other is virtual, with fans watching at home, not only in Spain but also in the United States, Africa, all over Europe, Asia. So those fans who are also very important in a way, as we all know, TV rights generate very significant revenue, first of all for the clubs, but also for the Spanish Football Federation, so they have to be taken into account as well.

What is the Football Association's attitude towards possible objections from players and future plans?

We have to make a "gesture" to the fans who are there and pay a fortune to watch all the games on their TV screens. In the face of complaints caused by this matter, we need to reach an agreement with the players through "respect" and "dialogue".

If everyone occasionally invests in this aspect, and if everyone, or most people, agree to go down this road, then go ahead, but the Football Association will not set up obstacles in this regard. We always advocate dialogue and on this basis everything can be built.
